Holiday Networking

December 13, 2010

Please join us on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, for our monthly Networking Breakfast. This effective and highly-popular event will be held from 7:45-9:15am at Design Within Reach at 1710 Sherman Avenue. Refreshments will be provided by Fraîche Bakery & Café. With the visually-stunning DWR partnering with the olfactorily-tempting Fraîche, it should be a memorable morning.

Bring business cards and be ready to grow your business.

Please go to this page on our website for more details, and to register. Premier members can attend for free.

Networking Breakfast (NeBr)

December 13, 2010

The Evanston Chamber of Commerce’s Networking Breakfast, or NeBr (sounds like ‘neighbor’), is held on the 4th Tuesday of every month, from 7:45-9:15am. As we do with the Business After Hours, we will occasionally make a change due to special events or holidays (which I acknowledge are special events in their own right), but the 4th Tuesday is pretty set for us.

Each NeBr is hosted by a different member on a rotating basis, and several months of these events have already been booked for 2011. Although we do not charge a fee for hosting the Networking Breakfast, the host donates enough food and beverage to satiate the desires of 40-70 attendees in need of caffeination and, um, pastry-ation.

The Networking Breakfast is a programmed networking event, unlike the more free-form Business After Hours. After about 15 minutes of network mingling, there is a short presentation by the host, the moderator, and perhaps some short announcements from a Chamber member. Time willing, we will go around the room for everyone to give their escalator speech (a bullet-version of the elevator speech). We then get into the program portion of the event, which may include speed networking, small table discussion or working on different networking/speaking techniques.

If you are interested in hosting an Evanston Chamber Networking Breakfast, or any other networking event, please contact Elaine Kemna-Irish or Brooke Saucier at 847-328-1500.

Upcoming NeBrs and their hosts, if known

December 21, 2010 – Design Within Reach (host) / Fraiche Bakery (food provider)

January 25, 2011 –

Let’s get this party (re)started!

December 9, 2010

Our penultimate networking event of 2010 is coming up! Next Wednesday, December 15th, we will be holding our Business After Hours from 5-7pm. This month’s host is the Hilton Orrington, located at 1710 Orrington in Downtown Evanston.

If last year’s December BAH, which was held at what now is Pensiero Ristorante, is any indication, this year’s should be very festive and a lot of fun.

For more information, and to register, please go to this link. Or this one will work, too. You could even click on the acronym BAH, if you’d so choose. During this holiday season, we aim to make things easy for you.

As with our Networking Breakfast, Premier Members can attend for free, but please RSVP (see? easier).

Business After Hours

December 9, 2010

The Evanston Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours, or BAH, is held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, from 5-7pm. Occasionally we will make a change due to special events or holidays (which I acknowledge are special events in their own right), but the 3rd Wednesday is pretty set for us.

Each BAH is hosted by a member on a rotating basis, and several months of these events have been booked. Although we do not charge a fee for hosting the After Hours, the host typically donates enough food and beverage to satiate the desires of 60-100 attendees.

The Business After Hours tends to be rather free of format, unlike the monthly Networking Breakfast (NeBr). As it is held during the happy hours, so to speak, it takes on the feel of a cocktail party. After about an hour (around 6pm), there is a short presentation by the host, and perhaps some short announcements from a Chamber member or Chamber staff. (Don’t worry, this member is selected well before the event, so you’ll know if you’re on the hook for a speaking engagement.)

If you are interested in hosting an Evanston Chamber Business After Hours, or any other networking event, please contact Elaine Kemna-Irish or Brooke Saucier at 847-328-1500.

Upcoming BAHs and their hosts, if known

December 15, 2010 – Hilton Orrington

January 19, 2011 – Asha Salon

April 20, 2011 – Rotary Club of Evanston/MJ Catering

May 18, 2011 – Hilton Garden Inn/Chicago North Shore Convention & Visitor Bureau

Economic Outlook Breakfast

October 13, 2010

The Evanston Chamber is proud to be a co-host–along with Evanston Inventure, Downtown Evanston and the City of Evanston (wow, that’s a lot of Evanstons)–of the Economic Outlook Breakfast. Charles Evans, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will discuss our regional and national economic climate, as well as trends for the next year.

Please join us at the Hilton Garden Inn (1818 Maple Avenue, Evanston) on Tuesday, October 19 at 8:30am. Continental breakfast will be served.

Please see the Event Flyer to register for this fantastic event.

Welcome Make It Better!

September 11, 2010

We’d like to welcome Make It Better as a new member…

Patti Augustyn and Megan Holbrook make up their Evanston ad sales force, and they’ll be attending the Evanston Business Mash Up. Keep an eye out for them!

Despite being relatively new, they are now the premier magazine on the North Shore, and we look forward to working with them.

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your Evanston.

August 3, 2010

The Evanston Chamber is hereby staking our claim in the so-called blogosphere, a level of the atmosphere within the internetosphere, just under the socialmediasphere and just above the chamberofcommercosphere. This cannot be confirmed in any natural science textbooks, so don’t even try.

I am Brooke Saucier, the possessor of a very long title here at the ECofC: Manager of Membership, Marketing & Development. The ‘Marketing’ aspect of my portfolio is where this blog falls into, as I will be marketing not only the chamber, but our members as well. This will hopefully trickle into the ‘Membership’ portion of my business card, as the words ‘satisfied’ and ‘brand-new’ will be attached to a greater number of our members.

I plan to use this blog as a sounding board for just about anything: business ideas, business news, job seekers, job opportunities, public announcements and other random, (hopefully) funny tidbits from my days on the Evanston beat. I hope that YOU use this blog as well…make comments, post your posts, make your voice heard. You are the Evanston business community–whether you own your business here, do your shopping here, raise your children here, work here, live here–and I want you to put your best faces forward…right here.
